Guidance: New NICE standard on managing medicines in care homes

NICE has published a new quality standard on managing medicines in care homes.

It covers the prescribing, handling and administering of medicines for all people (including adults, children and young people) living in care homes, and the provision of care or services relating to medicines to those people.

The quality standard focuses on a person?centred approach to medicines in care homes – with care home residents supported to take an active role in decisions about their treatment and, wherever possible, to self?administer their medicines.

NICE is also looking for examples of how this and other quality standards and guidelines are being used for the improvement of health and social care services. Examples can be submitted to the NICE shared learning collection.
