University of Ulster to host social work seminar series

The University of Ulster is providing a series of free seminars during 2014-15 to share research, teaching and organisation development learning to support social work and allied human service professions.  

The ‘Decisions, Assessment, Risk and Evidence Studies in Social Work’ series will include the following topics:

  •     professional judgement and shared decision making
  •     assessment processes and tools to inform decisions
  •     risk assessment and management in practice and organisations
  •     creating and using evidence to inform practice and policy

All the seminars will take place at the University of Ulster’s Jordanstown campus on the following dates:

  • Thursday 9 October 2014- Understanding risk-taking behaviour of criminal offenders – Dr Jonathan Rolison, Lecturer in Psychology, Queen’s University Belfast
  • Thursday 20 November 2014- Appraising the use of evidence in social work organisations – Anne McGlade, Lead for Social Care Research, Health and Social Care Board
  • Thursday 5 February 2015 – Risk of what? Avoiding the single outcome error in evaluating decision making –  Trevor Spratt Professor in Childhood Studies, Trinity College, Dublin
  • Thursday 5 March 2015 – Errors of judgement?: Learning from Serious Case Reviews in adult social care – Jill Manthorpe, Professor of Social Work, King’s College, London
