Inverclyde education and social work boss to retire

INVERCLYDE Council has announced that suspended Corporate Director of Education and Social Care, Ian Fraser, is to take early retirement.

The council suspended Mr Fraser earlier this month pending a full investigation into “a number of management and operational matters” following controversy over school admissions.

John Mundell, Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council, said: “Inverclyde Council has historically had an excellent track record of high performing education and social care services and Ian contributed to the further development of these services over the last two and half years.”

The council has appointed Maggi Allan to act as an independent consultant to conduct a review and prepare a report on the policies and procedures for school admissions and placing requests and their operational implementation. The work is scheduled for completion prior to the end of June.

The council said that Ms Allan has extensive experience and is highly respected as an educational professional. She was the Director of Education for South Lanarkshire Council for 10 years and prior to that Director of Education for Central Regional Council.

She has successfully completed various consultancy works for the Scottish Government and other local authorities.
