Michelle Miller elected Vice President of the Association of Directors of Social Work

Chief Social Work Officer at the City of Edinburgh Council, Michelle Miller has been elected Vice President of the Association of Directors of Social Work (ADSW) in Scotland.  Next year she will automatically become President of the Association.

ADSW is the professional association, which represents senior social workers in local government in Scotland. It exists to promote social work and social care and to protect the interests of the people supported by these services. It also provides expert views to various working groups across National and Local Government.  ADSW provides professional advice to the elected member committees in COSLA and regularly meets with the Scottish Government to advise on policy and discuss relevant issues.

2009 is the 40th anniversary of the Association. In this anniversary year, a number of projects have been launched to promote social work and social care in a positive way.

Michelle Miller, voted into this position by her peers, has welcomed the responsibility and the challenge, she said: “I am very pleased to be taking on this role at what will be a particularly challenging time for public services; striving to provide the best possible outcomes for people in difficult circumstances.  I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues across sectors and agencies in helping to make our ambitions for social care services a reality.”
