Chester MP Christine Russell opens new Victoria Children’s Centre
A NEW £500,000 children’s centre providing a range of services to local families was opened by Christine Russell, MP for the City of Chester, on Friday.
The Victoria Children’s Centre on Cheyney Road in Chester, next door to Victoria Infants School, will cater for families in the Newtown, Hoole, Garden Lane and city centre areas.
Funded through the government’s Sure Start programme, the centre is one of more than 30 across the county which aim to bring together early education, childcare, health and family support.
This is intended to be for the benefit of young children under four and their parents living in disadvantaged areas.
The Victoria Children’s Centre will be administered through the new Cheshire West and Chester Council with a multi-agency team which includes professionals from health and social care, education, Job Centre Plus and family information service.
Among the services provided at the centre are baby massage, midwifery clinics, health visiting sessions, parenting programmes, a baby matters group and two stay and play groups.
The centre also offers advice and information on local childcare providers and schools.
