More Nottingham Home Carers Needed

More home care workers must be recruited to look after the elderly, according to a public sector union.

The East Midlands branch of Unison is calling for the recruitment drive in light of the latest Commission for Social Care Inspection Report.

This says older people are “at the whim of a postcode lottery” in terms of the care they get.

Unison say this leaves them with two choices – to move, or to fund their own care.

Ravi Subramania of Unison said: “It is clear to Unison that home care needs better funding, and local councils need to focus on recruiting staff.

“Boosting recruitment and retention would cut down on long term costs and provide quality of care in the community.”
