Webwatch: Children’s social care law in Wales
Cardiff University has launched a free website resource for Children’s social care law in Wales, aimed at social workers and other practitioners who deal with children and their families.
The website, developed by Cardiff University’s School of Law and Politics, will help practitioners find information on social welfare legislation and guidance for children. This is an area which can often be difficult for practitioners in Wales, who work within a complex framework of laws.
The website will give practitioners assistance on current laws related to children’s services, and guidance for the future when the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 comes into effect in April 2016.

The website, developed by Cardiff University’s School of Law and Politics, will help practitioners find information on social welfare legislation and guidance for children. This is an area which can often be difficult for practitioners in Wales, who work within a complex framework of laws.
Although law-making powers in social welfare are now the responsibility of the Welsh Government, the current law is a mix of older laws that cover both England and Wales, some that differ slightly between England and Wales and some that apply in Wales only.
The hope is that the site will help you steer through this to find what you need to know about children’s services now, and when the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act takes effect in 2016.
