Consultation: Changes to Practice Guidance for Social Care Managers in Wales

The Care Council for Wales is inviting social care managers to comment on proposed changed to The Social Care Manager: Practice Guidance for Social Care Managers registered with the Care Council for Wales.

First published in 2013, The Social Care Manager is an important document which builds on the Code of Practice, describes what is expected of social care managers and is intended as a practical tool, aiding managers in their practice.

If there are concerns about a manager’s fitness to practise, practice guidance may also be used to illustrate a failure to meet the standards in the Code. Serious or persistent failure to follow practice guidance may therefore put a manager’s registration at risk.

In accordance with CCW requirements, an annual review of the practice guidance is conducted to ensure it remains current and fit for purpose. As a result of this year’s review, CCW intend to make a small number of changes and additions as described below.

  • Incorporating the new Code of Practice (which was recently consulted on and which will be published in April 2015)
  • Adding a new section Responding to Welsh language need
  • Adding a new section Conduct and social media

You are invited to comment on the proposed changes by Friday 27 February through emailing: [email protected]

CCW hope to publish the revised practice guidance in the next few months
