New professional apprenticeship in Care Services leadership

A new professional apprenticeship at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) level 10, which incorporates the revised SVQ4 Care Services Leadership and Management, has been developed by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

As part of Skills for Care and Development, the SSSC manages the modern apprenticeship frameworks for social services and healthcare and social services (children and young people).

The SVQ 4 Care Services Leadership and Management is the benchmark management qualification for the mandatory registration with the SSSC of managers in adult care services.  The new professional apprenticeship is enhanced by a range of additional careers skills units.

This new apprenticeship joins a number of modern and technical apprenticeship frameworks at SCQF level 6, 7 and 9 in social services and healthcare and social services (children and young people).  These apprenticeships incorporate a range of SVQs which are the benchmark qualifications for workforce development in the social services sector and for the registration of the workforce with the SSSC.

All SSSC apprenticeship frameworks offer people the chance of paid employment linked with the opportunity to train across the social service sector.  These help apprentices gain qualifications for the skills they develop and to better meet the needs of people who use social services.  They reflect the needs of the sector and are in line with Scottish Government’s Making Training Better and the qualification structure for social services.
