New UCAS resources for care leavers in higher education

UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is developing a number of activities as part of National Care Leavers’ Week 2014 to support those looked after young people in their application to higher education.

If you are in care, or you’re helping someone who is, UCAS is hosting a webchat on Thursday 30 October 4pm-5pm to answer questions about applying to university and discuss the support offered to looked after and care experienced young people by universities and colleges.

How to join the webchat

  •     Go to the UCAS website
  •     Select the option to book the ‘Care leavers’ webchat at the bottom of the page, you will then be sent a reminder email
  •     On Thursday 30 October, use the link within the email to join the webchat

The webchat will feature UCAS staff and a student from a care background.

Additional support

UCAS are also launching a toolkit for teachers and advisors to help them support applicants from a care background more effectively, and will be running training sessions for their customer advisors to help them support care leavers that contact UCAS.
