EDI launches first ever online SVQ in Health and Social Care in Scotland

Colleges, training providers and employers can now use an e-portfolio in their delivery of SVQs in Health and Social Care, as leading awarding body EDI launches a new qualification in Scotland.

Available through a web-based electronic portfolio, the SVQs in Health and Social Care provides users with an efficient and cost effective alternative to similar qualifications currently on offer throughout Scotland.  The e-portfolio enables employers, candidates, assessors and verifiers to remotely load, access and manage learning anytime, anywhere.

Available at Levels 2 and 3 and developed in collaboration with Skills for Care and Development, the SVQ is based on the latest National Occupational Standards and assessment strategy.

Level 2 consists of six units (four mandatory and two optional) enabling learners to tailor their learning to their workplace and role.  Level 3 has two specific pathways for those working with either adults or young people. This consists of eight units (four mandatory and four optional) which are relevant to various career paths.

The qualifications aim to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of Scotland’s Care industry. They provide up-to-date training in-line with industry needs and an opportunity for individuals to progress and grow within their present role. Similarly those new to the profession can gain the required skills and knowledge to succeed.  The qualifications are specifically designed for those delivering physical, emotional or enabling care to clients in health or social care departments, across the public, private or voluntary sectors. This includes hospitals, residential homes, nursing homes and day centres.

As well as the unique online portfolio though e-NVQ, EDI offers service, care and support via a Scottish Business Development Manager who can advise providers on the most efficient and appropriate delivery options.

Iain McLaren, EDI’s Business Development Manager in Scotland, commented: “EDI has significant experience of offering these qualifications in England and is now extending its expertise to the Scottish market. Over 150,000 people are currently employed in the Care sector in Scotland and the Sector Skill Skills Council indicated that demand for care will continue to grow as life expectancy increases, therefore a skilled workforce is vital. By using e-NVQ to deliver these new HSC qualifications, users can instantly access coursework and revisit their work at anytime, from any location.
