Bookings now open for Skills For Care leadership development programme

Skills for Care’s Well-led leadership development programme is now open for bookings in London, Manchester and Bournemouth. Starting in October 2017, this national development programme supports managers from the public, private or third sectors in enabling them to deliver care in line with the expectations of a well-led service.

The programme is informed by the Care Quality Commission’s key line of enquiry on the effectiveness of leadership when inspecting the quality of care in a regulated setting. It’s grounded in the reality of social care delivery and has been developed in partnership with managers familiar with the challenges of leading a care team.

Skills for Care CEO Sharon Allen said: “Our Well-led programme will give care leaders and managers, new tools and strategies to lead services effectively which is particularly important in an increasingly complex and challenging adult social care world.

“We know great organisations have great leaders and managers so this programme will support them to develop clear goals and promote best practice through effective leadership.”

The Well-led programme includes a series of four interactive workshops over a three-month period. Drawing on expertise in leadership development in a social care setting, it actively utilises key materials, resources and practical tasks to apply directly in embedding leadership learning in the workplace.

The interactive workshops provide examples of practice from care organisations rated ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ and enable managers to learn from others through collaborative activities and networking opportunities.

The Well-led programme cohort in 2016 attracted care leaders from a broad range of organisations across the country and Jason Kenny, registered manager at Old Hastings House, in East Sussex was one of them.

He said: “Learning from other managers and the facilitators was a great place to reflect on plans for my service, make changes to my approach and forge new plans.

“The Well-led programme is relevant to both new and experienced managers, because you are talking about the same thing – striving for improvement.”
