Forum chair urges Welsh sector to nominate social care professionals

Care Forum Wales’ chair, Mario Kreft, has called on social care professionals to nominate people in the sector for the First Minister’s St Davids Day Awards.

Mr Kreft received an award in March this year and is now on the judging panel for the 2016 awards which were launched at a special event at the Senedd by Carwyn Jones this week.

The event was attended by large number of past winners including Mario Kreft MBE (pictured right), Rhian Burke, Dr Lyn Evans CBE, Yaina Samuels, Sian Phillips CBE and Peter Brewin and William Crawford.

Mr Kreft wants to encourage dedicated and hardworking social care professionals to come forward or to nominate deserving colleagues for the Awards.

Speaking at the event, First Minister Carwyn Jones said: “Our St David Awards keep going from strength to strength. Last year, hundreds of nominations came flooding in from all over Wales. The St David Awards are our national celebration of the very best of Wales. Too often we hear that same mantra repeated: people don’t care about their communities any more; they’re looking out for number one. These Awards, year in year out, prove beyond any doubt that this just isn’t true. Selflessness and sacrifice don’t belong to a bygone era; they’re alive and well today. People can – and do – make a difference.”

Nominations are now open for the 2016 St Davids Day Awards – the nominations close at midnight on October 27.
