Manager defends care home following critical report

A care home manager in South Wales has defended his home following criticism in a report by social care inspectors.

Taliesin Care Home in Tonypandy, Rhondda, was told to improve by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) following several regulation breaches.

In their report, inspectors noted problems management of medications, trainig of staff in restraint techniques, management of service user care plans and proper recording of events affecting the health and wellbeing of service users.

Speaking to Wales Online, manager Paul Phillips defended the home saying : “Everything the inspection has asked us to do has been completed. All the paperwork procedures have been brought in line with requirements.

“The language in the report makes it sound worse than it actually is. We have had good reports back from relatives and they are very happy with the care we provide.”

He added: “It’s a very homely and pleasant place to live and staff are very kind and considerate. They are conscious of putting people’s dignity first.”

Inspectors plan a follow-up inspection on the home next year.
