Care home manager removed from register over theft

Adult care home manager, Susan Anne Warren, has been struck off the Register for Social Care Workers for stealing confidential documents from her employer.

The Conduct Committee heard that, Ms Warren, formerly employed by Forest Gate Health Care Ltd, stole documents after concerns were raised about her conduct as a manager.

During the hearing the Committee heard that managers at Forest Gate Health Care were alerted that Ms Warren was in possession of confidential documents after the Nursing and Midwifery Council received a referral, from Ms Warren about three members’ of staff at the care home. This referral included copies of confidential documentation, which should not have been in her personal possession.

Ms Warren, who did not attend the hearing, accepted a Police caution after copies of confidential documents including a number of documents which had been sent to the Nursing and Midwifery Council were found in her home.

In reaching its decision the Committee found that Ms Warren failed to uphold professional standards of the Code of Practice for Social Care Workers requiring practitioners to respect the privacy and dignity of service users and their personal information; and to be honest and trustworthy.

As a result of the Committee’s decision, Ms Warren’s name will be removed from the Social Care Register which means she will no longer be able to work as or call herself an adult care home manager.

The Care Council is the social care workforce regulator in Wales. By registering with the Care Council, practitioners and social work students are accountable for their conduct and practice.
