Winners announced at Scotland’s Care Accolades

The winners of the SSSC Care Accolades 2014 were honoured yesterday at an afternoon award ceremony celebrating innovative and outstanding social service projects and services in Scotland.

Over 200 people gathered for the ceremony in Perth to recognise and celebrate the exceptional practice in social services in Scotland. The annual awards recognise the extraordinary people and organisations who are changing and developing their services to make a real difference to the people who use them.

Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell said: “The Care Accolades gives us the opportunity to celebrate what social service workers do, each and every day of their working lives. They deserve the highest praise for their professionalism, and dedication to caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

“The enormous difference they make to thousands of people on a daily basis should be recognised and applauded. I give my warmest congratulations to all the finalists and winners”.

Professor Jim McGoldrick, SSSC Convener and Chair of the Care Accolades 2014 judging panel said: “Today allows us to celebrate the success, commitment, creativity and skills our social service staff have in providing us with the social services we need now and in the future. What shone through in all the winner and finalist projects was the commitment to achieving better outcomes for people who use social services day in day out. Each finalist should be extremely proud of their achievements at the awards”.

“I hope the winning and finalist projects will inspire and encourage other social service organisations to replicate these outstanding projects or services or look at developing their own services to improve the standard of social services in Scotland further.”
