CSIW involved in Cilwendeg Care Home investigation

The care and social service inspectorate Wales have confirmed today (Wednesday) that they are working together with partner agencies to investigate how a 96-year-old woman went missing from a care home in Boncath.

The elderly woman was reported missing from the council-run Cilwendeg Care Home at 5pm last Tuesday, April 2nd.

After a seven hour search, involving a police helicopter, fire crews and police officers on the ground, fire fighters found the woman about half a mile away from the home.

She was taken to Withybush Hospital with minor cuts and bruises and suffering from the effects of the cold. She returned to the home last Wednesday.

Pembrokeshire County Council said that they were conducting a full review into the circumstances of the woman’s disappearance to ensure that the situation did not happen again.

The care and social service inspectorate Wales said they were fully aware of the situation as they had been notified by the care home.

A spokesman said: “We are in the process of working together with our partner agencies within the local procedures for the protection of vulnerable adults to consider any issues arising from the incident.”
