Elderly Service Expands ‘Due To Popular Demand’

Carmarthenshire’s new Twilight Service to help elderly people return home from hospital at night has been expanded due to popular demand.

The scheme, which originally started in the A&E Departments at West Wales General and Prince Philip hospitals has been so successful it has been expanded to include the Clinical Decision Units at both sites.

Delivered by Menter Cwm Gwendraeth, the scheme sees trained care workers being made available between the hours of 2pm to 10pm in order to assist older people who no longer need to be in hospital but need practical support in returning home.

advertisementThe service not only provides a huge amount of support to individuals at a time when they feel vulnerable, but also helps to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

Twilight Service Manager Janet Hague said: “The initiative has been greatly received in the departments, both for the practical help we provide and in the safe transportation of clients to their home.”
