Adult Porn Link Shocks Users Of Community Site
An Assembly-funded community website has been taken offline after it was found to be inviting users to watch internet porn.
Dyfed-Powys Police have now launched an investigation after Communities First Powys bosses discovered the x-rated link on their website commfirstpowys.org
The site is supposed to provide information about the Wales-wide Communities First programme, which exists to help under-privileged communities in Wales.
But a link which is supposed to direct the user to an Ystradgynlais newsletter was instead taking them directly to an adult pornographic web page.
A spokesman from Ystradgynlais Communities First said: “We took the website offline as soon as this weblink was discovered and are currently assisting Dyfed-Powys Police with their investigations into how this situation occurred.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to have the website back online as soon as we can.”
The Communities First website usually features the logo of anti-web porn organisation SafeSurf. But bosses fear they are being targeted by a hacker, after the normally innocent link instead began directing users to a page of provocative images of barely-clad women and promises of more porn.
Users are offered the opportunity to rent pornographic DVDs or watch live sex-shows, movies, pictures and “voyeur-cams”. The site has now been taken down by Communities First “for the foreseeable future”.
An Assembly Government spokesperson said: “We fund local partnerships through our Communities First scheme. These partnerships are responsible for their own administration, including their websites and their content. We are naturally concerned with this discovery, however, this appears to be a genuine mistake. Steps will be taken to rectify this.”
A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We can confirm we have been informed about the Communities First website, and we are currently investigating the situation.”
