Learning Disabilities Safety Film Wins Praise For Team

A film has been developed to help people with learning disabilities learn about health and safety in the workplace.

The film – Bring a Smile to Health and Safety Training – features people who use Torfaen Council’s day activities service, and combines footage of people in day activities settings, with five short digital films produced by the Health and Safety Executive.

Anthony Arcari, Torfaen’s departmental health and safety co-ordinator, who had the idea for the film, said, “Health and safety materials that could be used in small group settings for people with learning disabilities simply didn’t exist.

“We involved service users from the outset and they gave spectacular – and unscripted – performances on the day. The finished film is testament to their hard work and dedication.”

Sandy Blair, the Health and Safety Commissioner, said, “This is a particularly good example of an initiative to ensure an inclusive approach on which Torfaen are to be congratulated.”
