Scottish events announced to help with NMC professional registration

If you work or have workers registered with the NMC in your social service, you may be interested in attending one the series of events designed to provide advice on NMC revalidation.

NMC revalidation will be introduced from April 2016, with all nurses required to renew their professional registration through the revalidation process every three years. The NMC Code and how it is used to inform the day-to-day practice is central to the revalidation of individual nurses.

As part of the ongoing work across Scotland the Scottish Government’s Revalidation programme board has asked NHS Education for Scotland (NES) to host a series of educational events to support nurses and midwives working within the health, social care and voluntary sector. These events will also support their line managers  (who may not be nurses or midwives) and will be required to confirm this revalidation process has taken place.

These regional events will have an educational focus and are intended to complement information available on the NMC website: http://www.nmc.org.uk/standards/revalidation/ and the Scottish Revalidation Community of Practice: http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk/revalidation.aspx.

Who should attend?

These events are open to NMC registrants, educators and managers from the NHS, care home, social care, independent and voluntary sectors. Please note, attendees should be in a position to the disseminate information from these events and support others in their organisations.

Event aims

The regional events have been developed to enable participants to:

  • explore the NMC Code and the revalidation requirements with other colleagues
  • enhance knowledge of and confidence in supporting revalidation from a confirmer’s  perspective
  • learn more about techniques and resources that can be used to support nurses and midwives evidence meeting the NMC revalidation requirements
