Former care home manager avoids jail after theft from resident
A former care home manager who stole more than £3,000 from a resident has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Carol Duncan, 51, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing after previously admitting stealing £3,600.
The former care home manager at Maryfield East Care Home in the city used the bank card and PIN in the name of Doreen Woods at various locations in Aberdeen between March 24 and April 5, 2011.
Speaking of the theft defence lawyer, Lynne Freeland, described Duncan as “deeply ashamed” of her actions and said she wanted to apologise to Ms Woods.
She said Duncan had made it clear that she wanted to repay the cash.
Sheriff Graeme Napier ordered her to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work within six months. He also placed her under supervision for a year.
Duncan, of Aberdeen, was also ordered to pay back the £3,600 within a week.
