ParentLine can help stressed-out parents over Christmas

Almost one in seven Scots (15%) are cutting back on spending at Christmas due to the tough financial climate, according to CHILDREN 1ST.

A CHILDREN 1ST survey* showed that the current economic climate is putting financial strain on Scots – and cutting back on Christmas is one way to deal with the financial fall-out.

Most said they would cut back on holidays (36%) or days out (35%). Others said they would forgo treats (26%), spend less on birthdays (20%) or refrain from buying new clothes and shoes (19%).

Jill Cook, manager of the CHILDREN 1ST confidential, national helpline ParentLine Scotland, said: “Financial pressures including the rising cost of living, increased fuel costs and cuts to the benefits system, is likely to make it a tough Christmas for thousands of families throughout Scotland. If parents are struggling to cope with financial issues or have any other concerns, they can contact ParentLine Scotland on 08000 28 22 33 or email [email protected] for support and advice.
