U-turn on bid to double day-care charges

Highland housing and social work committee has made a U-turn on plans to double day-care charges for vulnerable adults in the face of public pressure.

The committee was being asked to agree plans to double day-care charges from £5 to £10 by July 1 weekly regardless of income to reach a £200,000 savings target for social care.

The proposed price rises could have cost those attending centres providing day care for older people and adults with learning disabilities up to £260 more each year.
