Arbroath social worker recognised for lifelong learning

AN ARBROATH council worker has been named the best lifelong learner by the Scottish Qualifications Authority at a national awards ceremony.

Doug Fairweather, who is a social work and health learning disability services unit manager, picked up his award at a ceremony which acknowledges people’s commitment to lifelong learning.

Mr Fairweather left school in 1976 with no qualifications but went on to attend Dundee College to study business before training as a health care support worker.

He then joined Angus Council social work and health department as a day centre officer and completed a professional development award in learning disabilities and became a depute manager.

He was then promoted to manager and gained his SVQ 3 in care, followed by his SVQ 4 in health and social care, an Institute of Leadership and Management qualification, a post graduate module in profound and complex needs and two SVQ leading change units.
