Care-home worker suspended after sexual assault allegations
A care-home worker in Aberdeen has been suspended following allegations he sexually assaulted a resident, it emerged last night.
The 31-year-old, who is from Nigeria, was relieved of his duties at Woodgrove Nursing Home on May Baird Avenue in Aberdeen last month after a complaint was made.
Police were informed and launched an investigation.
Aberdeen City Council’s social work department was also alerted to the allegations at the specialist nursing home, which looks after people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
A spokesman for VSA, which runs the 40-bed home, said: “I can confirm there is an ongoing police investigation and a mem- ber of staff has been suspended.
“He works for a well-respected agency that has been contracted to us.
“We take any accusation of abuse extremely seriously as we strive to maintain our reputation for providing an extremely high level of care.
“Until the police investigation is concluded we can- not make any more comment.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed that an alleg- ation of assault had been made.
She said: “Inquiries are currently ongoing and are at an early stage and as such it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
Conservative councillor Alan Donnelly claimed the suspended worker, who lives in Rosemount, had been told an allegation of sexual assault had been made against him.
The man is employed by Banchory-based Premier Care (Aberdeen) and is understood to be meeting with bosses today to discuss the exact details of the complaint.
He is expected to be formally interviewed by Grampian Police on Thursday.
No one from Premier care (Aberdeen) was available for comment.
