Day centre for elderly to open in Edinburgh
A DAY centre to help isolated elderly people become involved in their community is to be launched by the city council. Half a million pounds will be pumped into a new facility in Clermiston which will create a day centre for over-65s within a library building.
The development follows a review two years ago which suggested ways for the elderly to remain involved in their community for longer.
Once the new library is open two other day services providing activities for older people will move in.
Health and social care leader Councillor Paul Edie said: “We want to make sure older people are getting the support and encouragement they need to lead happy, fulfilling lives in their own homes and communities. Good day care services go a long way to providing this. I’m sure the new facility at Rannoch Terrace will be very much welcomed by the local community and further afield.”
