Special-Needs School Gets Glowing Report

A school for children with special needs is celebrating a five-star inspection report. Croftcroighn School in Craigend, Glasgow has been praised with five excellent ratings, for communication, welfare, staff engagement, partnerships and leadership, by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.

For the remaining 11 inspection categories the school was rated very good.

Dr Laura-Ann Currie, HM Inspector, said: “Croftcroighn School provided an excellent educational experience for all its pupils and nursery children. The school provided consistently high-quality teaching and support for pupils. All pupils were making good progress in their learning. They benefited from very good opportunities to extend their learning into the wider community.”

Staff and parents were delighted with the report for the school in east of the city which caters for 43 pupils with learning difficulties.

Headteacher Margaret McFadden said: “I am particularly pleased by the recognition given to staff at Croftcroighn. We have a very committed team who share a very strong work ethic and the highest aspirations for our children.”

Liz McCluskey, from Moodiesburn, has a son, Lewis, nine, at the school.

She said: “Lewis is very happy here. He is severely autistic and has cerebral palsy and needs round-the-clock care. I educated him at home before he came here one-and-a-half years ago and he was isolated, but now, coming to the school, he has benefited socially.”

Amie Wilson, whose daughter Cara, nine, is also a pupil, said: “Cara has autism and severe learning difficulties. This school is a lifeline to me and my family. Cara wants for nothing when she is here and any concerns are minor and they are listened to and dealt with straight away.”
