Updates To Qualification Criteria For Registration With The SSSC

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), the organisation established to set up a register of key groups of people who work in social services in Scotland, has extended the list of qualifications it recognises and accepts for the purposes of registration.

Qualification requirements are set as part of the eligibility criteria for registration to help ensure the competence and professionalism of the workforce.

Further qualifications have been recognised for workers in adult day care services, residential child care services, care home services for adults, day care of children services and housing support services.

Applicants for registration who do not hold the required qualifications may, if they meet all other eligibility criteria eg evidence of ‘good character’, be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualifications within a specified period – normally their first three years of registration.

Further information about the groups that have been set for registration to date and updated qualification lists are available on the website – www.sssc.uk.com. Hard copies of the qualification lists can also be requested by telephoning 0845 60 30 891.
