Mental Health Crisis Centre Opens in Edinburgh
A centre offering support for people with mental health problems in times of crisis has officially opened to coincide with the launch of International Suicide Prevention Awareness Week today. Edinburgh Crisis Centre will provide a 24-hour support telephone helpline 365 days of the year, to people or carers of people in Edinburgh experiencing a mental health crises.
Centre manager Jacquie Watt said: “The service will help individuals deal with specific issues or problems. As well as being able to access services within the centre, assessment and referral to a range of services will be available.”
Suicide is the biggest killer of Scottish men aged 18-44, and recent figures reveal that in Edinburgh alone, there were 77 suicides last year, 52 of which were men. There were 39 suicides in the rest of the Lothians.
