Inspectors call for urgent improvements at elderly care home in Elgin
A care home for older people in must make urgent improvements in the care experienced by vulnerable residents, inspectors have said.
The Care Inspectorate has served a formal Improvement Notice on the Spynie Care Home on Duffus Road, Elgin following an inspection which raised serious concerns.
The notice lists six areas which require urgent improvement.
These include ensuring residents’ health, safety and well-being needs are met in a manner which promotes their dignity and choice. Management must ensure that there is leadership of each and every shift to deploy staff to work in specific areas in the care home according to their skills and experience and service users’ needs, to monitor the delivery of care to service users given by staff and to ensure that service users are receiving a level of care that is sufficient to meet their needs.
Management must implement effective arrangements for the management of medication; and they must implement effective arrangements for the management of pressure area care and the management of wounds.
Inspectors also called for suitably qualified and competent staff working in and deployed across the service in such numbers as are appropriate for the health, welfare and safety of people.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “The Improvement Notice we have issued clearly lays out the improvements we must see so that the care experienced by people improves quickly.
“We will visit this care home again soon to check on progress and if we are not satisfied that the matters raised are being addressed urgently we will not hesitate to take further action.”
