New App for Northern Irish workers in childminding settings

A brand new app to support Northern Irish staff working in childminding settings has been launched.

The app,’Health and Safety in the Childminding Setting’, has been developed in partnership with NICMA, the Childminding Association and NI Childcare Partnerships.

It is designed to provide Childminders in Northern Ireland with the resources and information necessary to comply with Health & Safety requirements detailed in The Minimum Standards for Childminding and Day Care for Children Under Age 12.

Health and Safety in the Childminding Setting has been endorsed by the Health and Social Care Board (HSB) for use by registered Childminders throughout Northern Ireland.

It allows a Childminder to complete the training in their own time, on their own device and in their own home.

This means that they don’t lose a day’s income in order to attend face-to-face training and it also provides them with a handy reference tool to use in their place of work after the training has been completed.

The App features quizzes, checklists, videos, details of legislation and Minimum Standards, and is a valuable resource for daily use.

It also has an assessment and an electronic certificate to reward completion. It will help Childminders to:

Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young people’s health and safety
Be able to recognise and manage risk to health, safety and security in the work-setting or on outings • Understand how to support children and young people to assess and manage risk for themselves
Understand appropriate responses to accidents, incidents, emergencies and illness in work settings and on outings.
