Children Arrested Over Violence

Children as young as 10 were among six juveniles arrested during disturbances in Londonderry, police have said. Two of the youths were arrested for disorderly behaviour and the other four on suspicion of riotous assembly on Tuesday night.

All six were released pending police reports.

Inspector Paul Deacon said continuing trouble in the Irish Street area of Derry’s Waterside area was tying up police resources. “We had two or three Land Rovers of police last night which could have been going out preventing and detecting crime in other areas and other issues that affect other people.

“However, when it comes to interface incidents we have no other option but to put police in the middle.”
