Probe Into Elderly Care Death

The Gardai are investigating the death of a 65-year-old woman in a long-stay Hospital in Cork. 65-year-old Hannah Comber died from asphyxiation after becoming entangled in straps in a special chair.

The HSE says it is cooperating fully with the Garda investigation and has established its own, separate, investigation.

The incident happened at Heatherside Hospital, a continuing care facility in Cork. The HSE says the hospital has a safe staff-to-patient ratio.
