Poor Supply of Social Housing

Not enough is being done to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing in Northern Ireland, according to a new report. The report by the homeless charity, the Simon Community, says that homelessness is a growing problem in the province. The charity’s chief executive Carol O’Bryan said that almost 30,000 households are on the Housing Executive waiting lists. She said that demand for homes was far outstripping supply. “Our main concerns are that the poor supply of social housing is having an impact on people who are homeless,” she said. “It is having an impact on preventing homelessness and it is having an impact on overcrowding in family homes.”
