New £6M mental health recovery centre to create 45 jobs in Manchester

The Alternative Futures Group (AFG) has announced plans for a new £6m treatment and recovery centre to be built on a 1.5 acre site in Ardwick, Manchester.

The new facility which will open in Autumn 2016 and will create 45 new jobs in the area.

For the last 13 years, AFG has successfully operated a treatment and recovery centre in South Manchester. This new 24 bed facility in Ardwick aims to be a fast track rehabilitation service for people with complex needs.

Neil Campbell, Chief Executive of AFG, said: “This exciting new development is to help people in Manchester who are experiencing mental health problems.

“We already have a strong track record of supporting people in the city giving them the ability to exercise choice and control in their recovery in an environment designed to optimise their health and wellbeing.

“Our added value is providing a link to our community services to further help people when they have finished their treatment to reclaim their lives.”

Councillor Bernard Priest, Deputy Leaderfor Manchester City Council, said: “Alternative Futures Group has an excellent reputation of delivering positive outcomes for people it already supports in Manchester.

“This new state of the art facility combined with AFG’s clinical expertise, will help address demand for mental health support in the region.

“It will deliver high quality care for people with complex needs allowing them to be rehabilitated back into the community.”

AFG is a charity which supports more than 1200 people with learning disabilities and mental health needs every year across the North West. This is achieved by providing around the clock support within the community, in peoples own homes or in one of eight specialist treatment and recovery centres.
