Physiotherapist struck off for sexual misconduct

Physiotherapist Mark G Jones has been struck off the HCPC Register for performing a sexual act on a patient whilst working for Powys Health Board based at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard how Mark G Jones massaged Patient A to sexual climax during the course of a physiotherapy treatment.

The Panel further heard about deficiencies in Mark G Jones’ note keeping.

Panel Chair Ian Griffiths commented: “The registrant’s sexual assault on Patient A constituted extremely serious misconduct, involving a number of breaches of fundamental tenets of the profession. The registrant’s conduct towards Patient A put her welfare at serious risk of harm and had the potential to cause serious emotional and psychological harm.

“The registrant has denied his misconduct throughout and has shown no remorse or insight into his behaviour. It follows that there must be a serious risk of repetition. He remains a risk to potential patients.”

The Panel decided the most appropriate action was to strike Mark G Jones from the Register with an Interim Suspension Order in place to cover the appeal period.

Mark G Jones was present and represented by counsel at the hearing.
