Alzheimer’s Society income increases by £9.4m this year

The income of the Alzheimer’s Society increased by £9.4m to £71m in the year to March 2012, compared with the previous year, according to its annual accounts, published last week.

The increase came mostly from a rise in the charity’s voluntary income, which rose from £32.1m to £41.1m in the year.

The charity’s funds rose by £1.1m to £29.1m, although unrestricted funds fell by £1.8m to £22.2m.

In their introduction to the report, the chair, Alastair Balls, and the chief executive, Jeremy Hughes, said they had been able to increase the level of services during the year. They paid particular credit to the retailer Tesco, which raised £7.5m for the society through its charity of the year partnership.
