Social Care has 22,000 jobs up for grabs each month

MORE than 22,000 jobs are on offer every month in the busy world of social care – and the numbers keep rising.

Whether it’s working with older people, children, families and youngsters or people with disabilities, there are opportunities to change lives across the country.

“Social care can be extremely rewarding. You could be helping older people to be independent and stay in their own home, working in the community with families or assisting a disabled person,” says Darra Singh, of Jobcentre Plus.

The great news is you don’t need a mountain of qualifications to get started. “Enthusiasm, people skills and life experience gained as a parent or carer can often be just as important as qualifications to get on the career ladder,” says Darra.

There are lots of routes into the industry, including through agencies, local authorities, small businesses or voluntary organisations.

“Your skills can be developed through on-the-job training and social care courses, which can lead you into senior and supervisory roles with more responsibility.”
