Head of children services at Derby City Council suspended

A senior officer at Derby City Council in charge of social services and education has been suspended from her post, it has been confirmed.

Ros Vahey was suspended from her job as strategic director of children and young people.

The council declined to reveal the circumstances surrounding her suspension.

Derby City Council said an investigation would be carried out, but would not say what its focus was.

In a statement, the council said: “We can confirm that the strategic director of children and young people has been suspended from Derby City Council.

“An internal investigation will now take place. It is not appropriate to comment any further.

“We are making an internal appointment to the role of director of children and young people on a temporary acting basis pending the appointment of an interim as soon as possible.”
