Waltham Forest social worker admits attack but keeps job

AN “exceptional” social worker will keep his job despite admitting a violent attack on his wife. Tafadzwa Dzinoruma also transferred money through the bank account of a service user to “solve his own personal family difficulties”, the General Social Care Council has revealed (GSCC).

Dzinoruma was contracted to Action First Recruitment Consultants while working in Waltham Forest, but failed to immediately notify his employers of the police caution for assault.

He eventually revealed the caution when attempting to re-register with the GSCC three weeks after the incident in May 2008.

Dzinoruma admitted breaking rules by using a client’s bank account, but a claim that he actually used the client’s money was not proved.

He was found guilty of misconduct on June 18 and received a four-year admonishment, which serves as a warning, but will be able to continue to practice as a social worker.

Dzinoruma has continued to work as a social worker throughout the disciplinary process.

Explaining its decision, the GSCC said the evidence showed the assault was an “isolated incident” and he had been an “excellent and exceptional” worker.

Other possible punishments were suspension or removal from the social care register.

Dzinoruma has one month to appeal the ruling.
