Ten jobs lost as Jersey care home closes

TEN care workers have lost their jobs and 11 elderly residents were given just a fortnight to find somewhere to live after the manager of their care home announced that it was closing.

Field House residential care home houses residents between 70 and 99 years old and for the last four years has been under the management of Michael Durance.

He informed staff and residents on 14 April by letter that the home, in Route du Sud, St Brelade, would be closed by this Friday, giving them just over two weeks’ notice.

In the letter, Mr Durance explained that he had to close because he could not make home alterations required to comply with new legislation. He said that under the Health and Social Services (Regulation of Care Law 2010), the home could not continue to operate.
