Husband of care home killer Rachel Baker acquitted

The husband of convicted care home killer Rachel Baker has been cleared of perverting the course of justice.

Leigh Baker, 50, of Glastonbury, Somerset, was accused of helping his wife in doctoring medical records in a bid to try and cover up her drug habit.

At Bristol Crown Court, the Crown Prosecution Service offered no further evidence against Mr Baker. He previously denied the charge.

Judge Neil Ford accepted the decision and entered a verdict of not guilty.

Mr Baker, of Boundary Way, had managed Parkfields Residential Care Home in Butleigh, Somerset, with his wife.

She stole medication from elderly patients to feed her addiction to Class A drugs, Bristol Crown Court heard earlier this month.

Registered nurse Mrs Baker, 44, was convicted of the manslaughter of resident Lucy Cox, 97.

Mrs Baker, from Glastonbury, was cleared of the manslaughter of another resident, Frances Hay, 85, another resident at the care home. Both women died in November 2006.

She was also cleared of murdering Mrs Cox and Mrs Hay.

Mrs Baker had earlier admitted 10 counts of possessing class A and C drugs, and one of perverting the course of justice.

She was remanded in custody on April 9 to await sentencing on a date to be fixed.
