Mental health services in Cumbria set for improvement

Following a scathing a report into mental health care in Cumbria, experts have said that steps are being taken to improve its services.

The Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust was rated as weak for its quality of service in last week’s annual Care Quality Commission report, according to the North West Evening Mail.An independent regulator of all health and adult social care in England, the Care Quality Commission found that Cumbria has the worst mental health care in the north-west.

However, Cumbria Mental Health Group will now help the trust make improvements to the service, starting by carrying out a consultation across the county next month.

The consultation will provide the foundation for the trust to develop its new mental health strategy.

Paul Booth, chairman and spokesman for South Cumbria Mental Health Group, told the news provider that it was not surprised at what the report found.”We know from regular feedback from service users and carers through our regular workshops and forums that these areas have been raised as issues of concern.”
