Devon county social services’ boss to move on

SOCIAL Services is set to undergo change after Devon County Council’s executive director for adult and community services David Johnstone handed in his notice.

Mr Johnstone is leaving his post to become the national director of operations for the Care Quality Commission.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is a new body, replacing the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission.

In a letter to staff Mr Johnstone said: “A great deal has been achieved within our services, and we have a full and very positive programme of work.

“All of this will continue because it is driven by your expertise and experience. I will be able to look on at your achievements with pleasure and pride.”

Phil Norrey, the council’s chief executive said: “I would like to thank David for all his hard work and dedication to improving care services for adults and older people in the county.

“Care services and standards have got better and better, while demand for them continues to grow.”

Transitional management arrangements will be made by the end of July when Mr Johnstone is due to leave.
