Police End Care Home Deaths Probe

No action will be taken by police after an initial investigation into conditions at a Northamptonshire care home concludes.

Police said no link was established between the care regime at Southfield Care Home in Northampton and the recent deaths of two terminally ill residents.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection closed the home on 1 August.

The CSCI had carried out three announced inspections which raised concerns over residents’ welfare.

Northamptonshire County Council and Northamptonshire Teaching Primary Care Trust last week confirmed that all residents had moved out of the home and been given alternative accommodation.

A separate inter-agency investigation into the home is ongoing and is expected to take some weeks.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the force would continue to work with the county council, the CSCI and other agencies, and would monitor the situation in case new information emerged.
