Plans Lodged For Extended Dementia Unit In Malvern

Planning permission has been lodged for an extension to a dementia care unit in Malvern. Friends of the Elderly want to build a 24-bedroom two-storey building to extend its current facilities.

The Malvern Gazette reports that the new unit will also feature specialist living and care facilities and the charity claims that there is a “definite need” for more “specialist high quality” dementia care in the area.

William McMorran, of McMorran and Gatehouse Architects, told the newspaper that the plans would set a “benchmark high standard” both locally and regionally for dementia care.

In other news, a £7 million mental health unit at Kendray Hospital in Barnsley has been officially opened.

The Sheffield Star reports that there are two 15-bed wards and a range of therapy facilities.
