Mencap Appoints Its New Chief Executive

The leading learning disability charity in the UK has announced the appointment of its new chief executive.

Mencap has revealed that Mark Goldring CBE will assume the role in November, taking over from Dame Jo Williams who announced her retirement earlier this year.

He has previously been chief executive of VSO and Mr Goldring has also held positions in Oxfam and the United Nations Development Programme.

“I join Mencap at an exciting time, and I really look forward to working with and for the 1.5 million people in the UK with a learning disability, their families and carers,” said Mr Goldring.

“I am keen to start working with the Mencap members, staff and trustees to build on Dame Jo’s legacy and take Mencap forward to continue its work as the voice of learning disability.”

Maureen Piggot, the director of Mencap in Northern Ireland, was recently awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to people with learning disabilities.
