Worcestershire Mental Health Unit To Shut Down

A mental health unit in Worcestershire is to close, it has been announced. The news that the Lea Castle centre in Kidderminster is to shut follows a meeting of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust earlier this week.

Barry Davies, whose son uses the centre, said he could be “shoved anywhere in the country”.

But the trust’s chief executive, Sandy Taylor, who said there are only 26 at the centre now, stressed people would not be abandoned.

He said: “People who were present at the public meeting today (Monday) heard commitments from Worcestershire Primary Care Trust.

“(They were) about their commitment to providing services for the existing residents and also to put in place services that would meet the needs of clients in the future.”

Mr Taylor said the approach to learning disability clients has changed over the years and the centre once had 750 residents.
