Stafford : Naked Protest To Save Care Homes

One of history’s original protesters has joined the fight to save Staffordshire’s council-run care homes. Lady Godiva, aka campaigner Simone Christian, rode topless on a mobility scooter outside the County Buildings in Stafford this morning to protest against the Changing Lives programme.

She was joined by around 40 members of the Relatives Action Group for the Elderly (Rage) who are fighting against Staffordshire County Council’s proposals to close its care homes and day care centres.

Mrs Christian, aged 41, of Leek, said: “Rage has organised this protest, but it was my own idea to come as Lady Godiva and freeze my bits off.

“I think protests like this do make a difference. We’ve been fighting for two years and because of our protesting the council have had to do things the proper way, with a consultation.”
